Kickstarter Wunderkind: The reissue of the NYC Transit Authority Graphics Standards Manual
Ever dream of turning your passion into a Kickstarter success?

In 1967 the New York City Transit Authority hired Massimo Vignelli and Bob Noorda to design a signage and wayfinding system that would solve the problem underground. The 1970 New York City Transit Authority Graphics Standards Manual succeeded in that goal and became one of the world’s classic examples of modern design.

Come hear Jesse Reed and Hamish Smyth, associate partners at Pentagram NYC, discuss the significance of the Standards Manual – and reveal their decision to reissue it with their wildly successful Kickstarter project.

Jesse and Hamish will share how their passion for design evolved into a limited edition project, and how they used Kickstarter as a vehicle to raise $802,812 for their publishing venture. This project was so successful that they’ve gone on to publish a compact edition, a NYC Subway poster, and a reissue of the 1975 NASA Graphics Standards Manual.
